Included in the 2015 Wisconsin State Budget, it is proposed to create a countywide property assessing department for municipalities of 39,000 population and lower. Those over 39,000 can elect to participate at the county level assessment department or keep their own property assessment department.

Our town opposes this proposal for several reasons. One reason is that it takes authority from the local level and puts it into the hands of bigger government. You as property owners should be concern in how this may effect the handling of your future assessment value and the process to object to an assessment during a Board of Review or correct a property assessment.

The bottom dollar is your final property assessment is the bases for which you pay property taxes. The town would like to see this part of the State Budget pulled and eliminated.

The Wisconsin Towns Association has put an article together that talks about several elements of this proposal that will make this easy for you to understand. Also is an article by Wisconsin Asociation of Assessing Officiers.
